ATHLETICS PURPOSE & PHILOSOPHY
Athletics at Penobscot Christian have the school’s mission as their aim—to cultivate students who love God, discern truth, and value beauty. Athletics at PCS is a beneficial tool but not an end in itself. Thus, the pursuit of excellence and bringing glory to God are two important hallmarks of the athletics program.
Athletics at PCS is a wonderful supplement to the classical education of our students as they learn the grammar, logic, and rhetoric of sports by mastering the basics, learning when and how to apply those fundamentals in pressure situations, and developing communication skills required for successful teamwork and positive outcomes. In athletics, as in academics and the arts, students experience the progression from foundational skills to coordinated play to elegant execution.
We recognize that the training of the body has been part of the classical approach to education from the very beginning. Further, our understanding of the Christian worldview does not permit us to artificially limit a course of training to the mind only. Our goal has always been to educate our students in all aspects of life, with the Scriptures at the center of all things as the point of integration. We have the same standard for our athletic program and see this point of integration as particularly important.
It is the desire of PCS to build strong, competitive athletic programs in a way that consistently glorifies God, promotes the pursuit of excellence coupled with humility, and fosters good sportsmanship. Along with all parts of the school, athletics at Penobscot Christian seek to form flourishing young adults who possess the qualities listed in the Portrait of a Graduate. This goal can only be accomplished with the full cooperation of players, coaches, parents, administrators, and spectators.

Spectator Code of Conduct
Spectators are expected to cheer heartily for PCS teams while showing honor to opposing teams and officials. Members of the PCS community are encouraged to be friendly to visitors on our campus and fields as well as when visiting other schools’ facilities. Small gestures, such as clapping when visiting team members are introduced or thanking officials are demonstrations of Christian hospitality and honor. The speech and behavior of PCS spectators is expected to meet the expectations set out for PCS athletes. No spectator may ridicule an official’s work or mock a player’s error. Parents must refrain from coaching from the sidelines. These rules apply to PCS spectators at home and away games, and apply to all spectators at PCS home games.
Come out and support our athletes!
Athletic events are published and kept up-to-date on the school calendar.
